Welcome back to Faith Matters, today I am super excited to be recording this message because it hit me like a ton of bricks the other night. I was spending time up and posting about God like I love to do while my wife is sleeping and then like a bright light I saw what God wanted me to share. But, before I jump into that I just want to say how awesome our God is. Just reviewing some data surrounding the @KNGMusic twitter account and saw that in one month, 243 tweets reached 1.59 million people. That right there isn’t me that is God doing something awesome. I am just a regular person that tries to be available and allow God to work in and through my life.
Now enough about that let us open in prayer. Heavenly Father I just want to thank you for how awesome you are. Sometimes this world is going too fast for us to see how many times you step in and bless us. I want to thank you for the opportunity to share my testimonies with others and the unique things you ask me to say. I pray that today you will give me just the right words to prick someone’s heart and let the Holy Spirit conviction lead them back to you. Without you Lord we are just empty vessels looking for anything and everything to satisfy that emptiness. Be with me Lord as I share the vision you gave me the other night. Help me speak the right words so that they know it is of you Father. In the name of Jesus, amen.
In preparing for this message I was hit with another tweet. God never stops to amaze me. Just recently posted this:
“God doesn’t have to give you a breath test to know that you are intoxicated with sin. “Just one more time” made you unsafe. Get right today!” – @KNGMusic
Wow, just wow. God works in mysterious ways and when He wants to intervene I just incline my ear to listen.
Jumping back on track I wanted to entitle this message today “Walking With God.” If I was to ask any Christian if they are right with God I am sure the typical response would be yes. If I was to ask them if they are walking with God I am sure I would probably get the same type of response with another yes. So let’s look at the definition of walking for a moment.
Definition of walk –
- move at a regular and fairly slow pace by lifting and setting down each foot in turn, never having both feet off the ground at once.
- cause or enable (someone or something) to walk or move as though walking.
Now after reading that simple definition to you, walking with God actually doesn’t seem that difficult. To me it almost sounds like just going through the motions. Are you going through the motions right now with your walk with God? I love to ask questions like this because I was there. I was that person that was “walking” so to speak with God, but wasn’t paying attention to the lesson that He was trying to teach me. I was too consumed with myself and everything that I wanted to do. Almost like I was forced to walk with the Lord instead of having my own desire.
Want to know what caused me to wake up from dragging my feet to wanting to run with God? It took me losing everything of this world that I cherished to realize how much I needed God and only Him. I had to be “rebuilt” in a manner that was based upon God first and not what I wanted. I was at a point that I could no longer try to hide from God, but instead turned to God for my support. I needed Him now more than ever.
God came through for me. He was there with me when nobody else could be. He opened my eyes to the decisions that I needed to make for my family to overcome the loss. Almost like when my fear kept rising, God would say to me look at me, don’t look away. Just like when Jesus told Peter to walk on water.
27 But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid.”28 And Peter answered him, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” 29 He said, “Come.” So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind,[e] he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, “Lord, save me.” 31 Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him, saying to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” 32 And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased. 33 And those in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”
Peter was doing fine until he took his eye off of Jesus and started to look around and became scared. When we walk with Jesus we should always fixate our eyes upon Him. This is crucial because if we are meandering down the path with Jesus and not keeping up then we will surely lose sight of Him. When Jesus is not in our sight or vision then we feel the flesh rise up quickly against us. How can we overcome our own fleshly desires without the help of the Lord?
1 Corinthians 10:13
No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
If God knows our limitations then surely He will stop us before we get out of control right? God has given each of us our own free will. God will cause a check in our spirit when we are about to do something that we know we shouldn’t. If we truly love God then we would choose not to sin against Him.
Let me share something I heard on the radio today that was spot on. A mother said this to her daughter who was raised to love the Lord but was having an unhealthy relationship. She said, “Do you love your SIN, more than you love your God?” I feel this is pivotal for us as Christians to examine our walk. If we continue to allow ourselves to sin then we are actually putting that sin above and before God. We must ask the Holy Spirit to help us overcome and give us strength to rebuke the enemy.
But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.
I implore you, please seek to walk with the Lord daily and continually. Do not lend to haste and drag your feet for surely nothing good will come of it. Ask the Lord to walk with you hand in hand, ask Him to take control of your life, ask Him to lead and guide you so that you may be at peace with Him. Our Heavenly Father is a gentleman, He will not push His way into your life, but He will stand at the door and knock until you invite Him in so don’t delay another moment, ask Him into your life.
My second vision that I was given has to do my dad. Have you ever gone to the store with your dad and he let you get something special since you were the only one with him at the time? I quickly learned this about my dad, if I went with him then I could get something special whether it was a piece of candy, a snack, or even ice cream. I also learned that when I stayed home and didn’t go with my dad then I got nothing.
Now taking that same thought process, if you don’t go with the Father then how will you receive the blessing? If I keep telling God, nah that is okay I don’t really want to go out there today, can’t I just stay home? God isn’t going to grab you by the ear kicking and screaming, He is going to quietly say okay because He has given you that free will. But imagine what type of blessings that I could be missing out on because I chose to say no, I chose to stay home, I chose to linger back and do what I wanted because I thought it would be more interesting.
Now pause for a moment and think about a time that God asked you to step out of your comfort zone and your response may have been no God I don’t have the time for that today. What type of blessing might you have missed out on? Maybe the ability to bless someone else, maybe a financial blessing for being in the right place at the right time, maybe even the ability to share your faith with a lost soul.
You never know what God has planned, but if you always say no and stay home, then you will never find out. Let me say that again.
You never know what God has planned, but if you always say no and stay home, then you will never find out.
Guys I know sometimes my messages may be difficult, they may point out a sore spot, they might even convict you, but please understand that as you are feeling these emotions, I am walking through the emotions with you. 99% of the time I am preaching to myself and by exposing my concerns I am helping God open my heart to what I need to do to overcome and draw closer to Him.
Let’s close in prayer. Dear Heavenly Father I want to thank you for challenging me with this sermon. I know that I am a sinner and have fallen short of the glory of God, but I also know that you sent Your Son Jesus to die on a cross for me and that through Him I can have eternal life. Lord, keep me close to You as I continue to learn how to follow in Your footsteps. If I stumble, please be there to help me back up. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
Thank you for joining us today with Faith Matters. I pray that this word will challenge you to go deeper and don’t settle with just getting by. God has bigger plans for us then we can even imagine. Keep seeking Him and keep reading that Bible. If you would like to reach out to me you can do so on Twitter @KNGMusic and on our website http://www.KNGMusicMinistry.com Have a blessed day everyone!
